Exploring the visual legacy of the console that was arcade perfect at home.

For a brief period in the early 1990s, the NEOGEO represented the pinnacle of video gaming. Unlike contemporary 8 and 16 bit consoles that attempted to recreate the arcade experience, the NEOGEO delivered arcade games exactly as they appeared in arcades, pixel for pixel on home televisions. Built as a purely two dimensional system before the rise of polygon graphics, it became the birthplace of some of gaming’s most iconic franchises, including Fatal Fury, The King of Fighters, Samurai Shodown, and Metal Slug.

NEOGEO A Visual History is the first officially licensed NEOGEO art book released in English. It serves as a visual celebration of the system and its legacy, featuring hundreds of carefully curated images organized into dedicated chapters covering hardware, box art, character and concept art, and pixel art. The imagery has been sourced and photographed from collections around the world and selected specifically for this volume.

The book also includes official interviews with key figures in NEOGEO’s history, including producer Yasuyuki Oda, artist Tatsuhiko Kanaoka known as Falcoon, and composer Hideki Asanaka known as sha v. Spanning 400 pages in A4 format, the hardback edition is produced using high quality print techniques, metallic gold ink, and thread binding to ensure durability and allow the book to open flat. Designed as both a reference work and a display piece, it offers a rare and detailed look into the world of the NEOGEO system, a console that was out of reach for many players during its original era.
